专利说明:

Connecting device and connecting system for two furniture parts to be connected to each other, as well as furniture which makes use of such a connecting device or such a connecting system.
This invention relates to a connecting device for two furniture parts to be connected to each other, as well as to a piece of furniture that uses such a connecting device. It also relates to a special connecting system in which, among other things, such connecting devices can be used. Furthermore, it also relates to methods for connecting two furniture parts together.
More specifically, it relates to a connecting device for two furniture parts to be connected to each other, of the type consisting at least of a first connecting part which is at least designed as a spreading system and which is intended to be arranged in a recess in a first furniture part, a second connecting part which is intended to extend beyond the recess in order to cooperate with a second piece of furniture, as well as an activation mechanism to activate the spreading system;
An example of a device of such a type is known, inter alia, from the patent application EP 0.940.587.
The present invention has as its first object an alternative to the known embodiments of the aforementioned type, in which a smooth assembly is possible.
It is a further object of the invention, at least in a preferred embodiment, to provide a connection device that allows a connection to be made without the necessity of employing a tool, such as a screwdriver or the like.
Another object that is pursued, at least in a preferred embodiment, is to work with a splitting system, which can create a tensioning effect, without a substantial axial displacement in the spreading system having to be realized for this purpose. After all, such axial displacement is less desirable in certain applications.
To this end the invention relates to a connecting device for two furniture parts to be connected to each other, with a first connecting part which is at least designed as a spreading system and which is intended to be arranged in a recess in a first furniture part, with a second connecting part which is intended outside the recess to thus cooperate with a second furniture part, as well as with an activation mechanism to activate the spreading system, characterized in that the spreading system comprises at least two mutually rotatable parts, a first part and a second part respectively, the mutual rotation of which in function a spread effect of the realized mutual angular position. Because the spreading effect according to the invention can be realized simply by a change in angular position between a first part and a second part of the spreading system, a fast and fast fixing is possible.
According to a preferred feature, the activation mechanism is formed in that one of the aforementioned mutually rotatable parts is connected to the second connection part, or to a part thereof, such that the activation mechanism can be activated by means of a rotation carried out on the second connection part. This creates the advantage that the connecting device can be clamped with a minimum of operations with its first connecting part in a recess provided for this purpose. After all, it is sufficient here to only exert a rotation on the projecting second connecting part.
The connecting device is preferably characterized in that the spreading system can take a first position where there is no forced spread or a minimum forced spread and a second position where a maximum forced spread exists, and that the activation system is configured such that the spreading system from the first to the second position can change at a mutual rotation of less than half a turn, and preferably at about a quarter turn. Because only a slight and preferably pre-set rotation is required for activation, the advantage is obtained that the spreading system can be brought into a tensioned state with particularly simple operation. This also makes it possible, at least in certain embodiments, to first install the connecting device with the first connecting part in a first furniture part and with the second connecting part in a second furniture part, only to subsequently activate the above-mentioned spreading system, this by connecting the furniture parts to a to subject mutual rotation, for example to turn one of the furniture parts a quarter turn, whereby this furniture part ends up at the end of this rotation or in its correct end position.
In a practical embodiment, the aforementioned first part of the expansion system consists of an element with variable dimensions as seen in diameter, more particularly a cam, while the second part consists of a spreadable body present at the circumference thereof, such that by rotation of the aforementioned element or the ridge, this element with a larger diameter gets stuck between spreadable body and a spreading takes place. It is furthermore preferred here that the first part has a non-cylindrical, but preferably a round, and in particular an elliptical or oval-shaped cross-section. The advantage is that it is possible to work with an element, more particularly with a cam of a relatively simple form, which is advantageous in terms of production.
In a preferred embodiment, the first part is also conically narrowed towards the second connecting part, in order to process a tensioning force also in the axial direction. Thus, it can be achieved that during the activation of the expansion system, not only is a clamping of the first connecting part in the recess provided for this purpose, but also the furniture parts to be connected are tightened against each other.
It is further preferred that the first part of the spreading system is made in one piece with the second connecting part. This whole can then easily be realized as one piece.
The second part of the expansion system is preferably designed as a spreadable sleeve-shaped body or plug, which, respectively, is composed of one or more parts or not, and preferably consists of a split sleeve, and more particularly of a bus split into two parts.
It is clear that ribs, teeth or the like can also be present on the circumference of the second part, in order to achieve a better grip.
In the free state, the second part of the expansion system remains present on the first part by itself because it is shaped around it.
In the most preferred embodiment, the second connecting part is designed as an insertion part, more particularly an insertion body, so that it can easily engage in a furniture part.
According to yet another preferred feature, both the first connecting part and the second connecting part are designed as insertion parts, each of which is characterized by an associated insertion direction, the insertion directions being perpendicular to each other and preferably perpendicular or substantially perpendicular to each other.
According to another preferred feature, the first connecting part and the second connecting part each extend along a longitudinal axis, wherein these longitudinal axes extend in mutually different directions, and are preferably mutually at an angle of 90 degrees or substantially 90 degrees.
In particular in applications where a connection must be realized at such an angle, the invention comes into its own in particular.
The direction, or therefore spreading direction, according to which the aforementioned spreading system is active, can be selected in different directions depending on the application. According to a first possibility, the spreading system is characterized by a spreading direction that extends transversely to the longitudinal axis of the second connecting part. According to a second, alternative possibility, the spreading system is characterized by a spreading direction which extends substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the second connecting part.
Of course, it is also not excluded to use a spreading system that is not characterized by a specific main spreading direction, but in which spreading takes place in several radial directions.
According to yet another special feature of the invention, the connecting device is characterized in that it is provided with a tensioning system with which a tensioning can be processed from the second connecting part to the second part of the first connecting part, preferably a tensioning in an axial direction of the first connecting part, wherein this tensioning system is preferably integrated in the aforementioned spreading system. By means of such a tensioning it is ensured that the two pieces of furniture, in the final mounted state, fit at least closely against each other and are preferably also clamped against each other with a certain tension.
In a preferred embodiment, means are provided which, when the tensioning system is tightened, allow the second connecting part to be moved to the second part of the first connecting part. These means can be of any nature. According to a first possibility, deformation parts are used, as will be apparent from the further description, and according to a second possibility, parts are used which can rotate alongside each other and as a result of this rotation can engage deeper into each other than in an initial position.
According to yet another preferred feature, the connecting device comprises means which, in the case of the aforementioned rotation, provide a perceptible end position in which the spreading effect of the spreading system is preferably maximum. Thus, the person who assembles the furniture automatically knows when the two furniture parts have come into the mounted state.
According to another special feature, the connecting device comprises holding means for holding the second connecting part in the relevant furniture part. This prevents this second connecting part and the furniture part in which it is present from coming apart.
The aforementioned retaining means can be realized inter alia according to one or more of the following possibilities: - as clamping means; - as clamping means in the form of clamping ribs; - as a locking means; - as a locking means with one or more hook-shaped locking parts which engage behind an edge on the relevant furniture part, such as behind a collar or the like; - as a locking means in the form of an element which is arranged through an opening in the second connecting part, to which, as aforementioned, one or more hook-shaped locking parts are present which can engage behind an edge on the furniture part, as well as with a stop-forming part covering the second connecting part retains in the mounted position; - as a locking means as in the preceding paragraph, with a part that can be inserted from outside, for example in the form of a plug, which forces and / or holds the locking parts in a locking position.
According to another preferred embodiment, the connecting device is characterized in that it comprises positioning and / or blocking means which prevent or counteract a rotation of the second part in the relevant recess and / or provide for positioning of the second part in the recess. These means preferably comprise one or more of the following possibilities: the second part is configured such that it fits into the relevant recess with a clamp fit; - the second part is provided with a structure, such as ribs and / or a toothing that provides an engagement effect; - the first connecting part, and preferably the second part thereof, as well as the recess are provided with interlocking parts which fit into each other in a certain position.
In a special embodiment, the connecting device of the invention is characterized in that it comprises a locking system which locks the second connecting part and the furniture part with which it cooperates in the mounted end position against rotation with respect to the other furniture part. This blocking system can, among other things, be designed according to one of the following options: - a pin, plug or the like that prevents a rotation; - a locking part arranged on the second connecting part, which may or may not be made in one piece, which engages a recess in the aforementioned end position; - a locking part cooperating with the respective furniture part which engages a recess in the aforementioned end position; - a locking part according to one of the preceding two paragraphs, formed as an elastically bendable lip, with a protrusion which is forced into the recess by the elastic lip when the protrusion is brought into opposition to the recess by rotation.
The present invention also relates to a piece of furniture comprising at least two pieces of furniture which are connected to each other by means of a connecting device as described above.
According to a preferred embodiment, at least one of the furniture parts consists of a slat which connects to a second furniture part at at least one end, and is thereby connected by means of the connecting device. After all, it is especially in such an application that the invention can be used effectively. The aforementioned bar can be an upright style of a cupboard, and more specifically a so-called "center post".
It is further preferred that the whole is configured such that the second connecting part can be arranged via one insertion movement in one of the furniture parts, whereafter the spreading system can be activated by turning this furniture part relative to the other furniture part.
The invention furthermore relates to a connecting system which provides a connection between furniture parts, in particular between at least one first furniture part directed in a first direction and a second furniture part directed transversely thereto, with the objective that a smooth assembly is possible, while forces can nevertheless be absorbed well in different directions, and in particular the second furniture part can absorb forces along both sides. It is also possible to assemble a piece of furniture between two others in a smooth and sturdy manner.
In a preferred embodiment, use will be made here of connecting devices as described above, whereby, thanks to a special arrangement and orientation of the connecting devices, the second furniture part can absorb forces on both sides, while these are nevertheless counteracted in two directions, and the whole is thus stable stays together ..
To this end, the invention provides a connecting system which provides a connection between furniture parts, in particular between at least one first furniture part directed in a first direction and a second furniture part directed transversely thereto, characterized in that: - the connecting system comprises at least two connecting devices, respectively comprises a first connecting device and a second connecting device which are mounted at a distance from each other and each make a connection between at least one first furniture part and the second furniture part; - that each of the connecting devices comprises a first connecting part which is intended to cooperate with a first furniture part, and also contains a second connecting part which is intended to cooperate with the second furniture part; - that on each of the aforementioned two connecting devices both the first connecting part and the second connecting part are designed as insert parts intended to cooperate with respective recesses in the respective furniture parts, said insert parts each being characterized by an associated insertion direction or longitudinal direction, the insertion directions or the longitudinal direction of the first connecting part and associated second connecting part are in each case transverse to each other and are preferably perpendicular or substantially perpendicular to each other; - that at least the first connecting parts or at least the second connecting parts also have retaining means for retaining these connecting parts in the respective recess; and - that the second connecting part of the first connecting device and the second connecting part of the second connecting device engage in respective recesses from two opposite sides of the second furniture part that are turned away from each other, in other words situated on either side of the second furniture part.
Because the second connecting part of the first connecting device and the second connecting part of the second connecting device engage in respective recesses from two opposite sides of the second furniture part that are turned away from each other, it is obtained that in both directions pressure forces exerted against the second furniture part are exerted. counteracted, namely that a support effect is created in both directions.
Preferably, the connecting system is further characterized in that both the first connecting part of the first connecting device and the first connecting part of the second connecting device cooperate with one and the same side of a first furniture part, and more particularly hold the same edge of the second furniture part against the aforementioned side.
Furthermore, it is also preferred that at least the first connecting parts as mentioned above are provided with retaining means. As a result, forces can also be absorbed by the first connecting sections according to their axial direction. The assembly is also preferably configured in such a way that forces can be absorbed in the same direction between the second furniture part and each second connecting part, all such that through the second furniture part and via the connecting system tensile forces can be absorbed which are in the plane of the second extend the furniture part. A second furniture part can thus ensure that first furniture parts adjoining it on either side cannot be pulled apart, or at least still be offered at least a certain resistance to moving apart.
In a preferred embodiment, the connection system is further characterized in that the retaining means present on the first connection parts are formed by the fact that the first connection part is in each case designed as a spreading system which can each time be activated by means of an activation mechanism. In the most preferred embodiment, connecting devices are therefore used in this connection system as before, and also as described below.
The aforementioned features of the connection system, as well as other preferred features thereof, are formulated in the appended claims.
The invention also relates to furniture which uses such a connecting system, and to a method of mounting applied thereto, which is also described in the claims, and is further explained in the detailed description.

As shown in Fig. 1, the invention relates to a connecting device 1 for connecting two pieces of furniture to each other, the latter being shown only very schematically in Fig. 1 and indicated by references 2 and 3, respectively.
In the embodiment shown, the connecting device 1 itself is composed of two components 4 and 5. Figures 1 to 4 show these components 4-5 in mutually assembled state, while Figures 5 to 8 only show the first component, and Figures 9 to 14 only the second component 5. It is noted that the structure of the connecting device 1 from two components 45 is particularly practical, but that the invention is not limited to the respective two-component structure.
As shown in Figs. 1 to 4, the connecting device 1 comprises a first connecting part 6 which is at least designed as a spreading system 7 and which is intended to be arranged in a recess 8 in a first furniture part 2, a second connecting part 9 which is intended outside the recess 8 so as to cooperate with a second furniture part 3, for example also with a recess 10, as well as an activation mechanism 11 for activating the spreading system 7.
According to the invention, the expansion system 7 comprises at least two mutually rotatable parts, respectively a first part 12 and a second part 13, the mutual rotation of which causes a spreading effect as a function of the realized mutual angular position.
As can be seen in the relevant figures, the aforementioned first part 12 of the expansion system 7 mainly consists of an element 14 with dimensions as seen in diameter, more particularly a cam, while the second part 13 consists of a spreadable element or body present at the periphery thereof 15, hereafter also called socket-shaped body 17.
By "dimensions variable in diameter" is meant that different dimensions exist depending on the direction of the diameter. In the example shown, the first part 12, viewed in section, is designed for this purpose as a cam with a substantially elliptical section. The first part 12 of the expansion system is moreover conically narrowed towards the second connecting part 9, in order to also process a tensioning force in the axial direction. This conical shape, more specifically the outer conical wall 16, is clearly visible in Figures 5 to 7.
The second part 13 of the expansion system 7 is designed as a spreadable socket-shaped or plug-shaped body 17. As is particularly visible in Figs. 9 to 14, this second part 13 in the shown example is designed as one piece in the form of a split sleeve or sleeve, more particularly a sleeve that is split on one side by a gap 18 over the full length. Opposite to this, as shown, a partially continuous slit 19 may be formed to ensure that the opposite portions 20-21 can be smoothly spaced apart.
The body 17 preferably has a conical inner wall 22, which is intended to cooperate with the conical outer wall 16 of the first part 12.
The second part 13 can for instance be arranged laterally over the first part 12 via the slit 19 and with some elastic deformation. The two parts 12 and 13 remain present to each other due to their shape-boundness.
The second part 13 can be provided on the outside with a toothing 23 to guarantee a better engagement in mounted condition.
The aforementioned second connecting part 9 is designed as an insertion part, more particularly as an insertion body. As shown, a substantially cylindrical body 24 is preferably used with a rounded or chamfered upper edge 25. Alternatively, this body 24 can be of slightly conical design to facilitate its insertion into a furniture part. Ribs (not shown) can also be provided on the outer surface 26 thereof, for example axially oriented ribs, in order to process a clamping or better clamping. To save material, the body 24 can be made hollow to a greater or lesser extent.
A stop-forming edge 27 is formed on the body 24 to limit the insertion movement.
It is clear that, according to the example shown in the figures, both the first connecting part 6 and the second connecting part 9 are embodied as insertion parts, each of which is characterized by an associated insertion direction R1 and R2 respectively, the insertion directions R1 and R2 being perpendicular to each other and in this case are perpendicular to each other.
As is clearly visible in figures 5 to 7, the first part 12 of the spreading system 7 is formed in one piece with the second connecting part 9. The conical element 14 is in this case connected via an intermediate portion 28 to the aforementioned body 24.
A positioning part 29 is also provided with which the first connecting part 6 can be arranged centrically in a recess 8.
In the example, deformation parts 30 are also provided, which can be compressed axially and / or will break down if a slight axial displacement should occur during tensioning or is desired between the aforementioned second part 13 of the expansion system 7 and the second connecting part 9.
It is clear that in the example the activation mechanism 11 is formed in that the first part 12 is connected to the second connecting part 9, such that the activation mechanism can be activated by means of a rotation exerted on the second connecting part 9.
Figures 15 and 16 illustrate the operation of the spreading system 7. Figure 15 shows a first position in which there is no forced spread or a minimum forced spread. By a mutual rotation as in figure 16, this over a quarter turn Q, the spreading system 7 is forced into a maximum spread position. It is clear that not only the cross-section of the element 14, in other words the circumference of the projection 14, but also the cross-section of the inner walls 31-32 must here exhibit a suitable course in order to obtain such a spreading effect, and it goes without saying that the skilled person can develop different designs for this.
Figure 17 shows a piece of furniture 33 in which a slat 34, which forms a second piece of furniture, connects at both end ends 35 to first piece of furniture parts 2 via connecting devices 1 according to the invention. The bar here concerns a style or upright, more specifically a so-called center post.
As can be seen in figure 18, the whole is configured here such that the second connecting part 9 can be arranged in the post via an insertion movement, whereafter the spreading system 7 can be activated by turning the post a quarter turn.
More specifically, this all happens as follows. The furniture parts are provided with appropriate recesses 8 and 10. On the one hand, this is a recess 8 in the form of a preferably non-continuous bore in the furniture part 2 at a distance from its edge. On the other hand, in the furniture part 3, in this case the lower end of the post, a recess 10 is also provided which, however, is partially intersecting with the respective end of the post 35, more specifically as shown in Fig. 18, such that a passage 36 exists. During assembly, the connecting device 1 is first pressed with the complete first connecting part 6, including the positioning part 29, into the recess, according to arrow A, whereafter the post or post with the recess 10 is slid over the body 24 in the position as shown. By subsequently rotating the post a quarter turn Q, it comes to the end position, and at the same time a spreading effect and a proper clamping of the first connecting part into the recess is achieved.
It is clear that additional provisions can be made to prevent a further continuous or recurring rotation from taking place. According to Fig. 17, the post rotation is prevented after mounting by the placement of a shelf 37 which with its front edge comes to sit exactly against the rear of the post. Other forms of rotation locking are possible, such as the provision of a plug parallel to the connecting device 1.
It is clear that the invention is not limited to the application shown. A wide variety of other applications is possible. The illustrated connecting device can be used, for example, as a shelf carrier in the indicated capacity. The connecting device is then inserted with the first part into a bore in a side wall, whereafter a rotation is carried out manually on the projecting second part in order to effect a clamping, such that the body is directed upwards in the end condition. A shelf can then be arranged over the body 24 with a downwardly directed recess.
A general feature that will preferably also be applied is that the second connecting part and the associated recess provide a mutual locking in the mounted state, according to the axial direction of the first connecting part. In the example of Figure 18 this is achieved in that the edges 38 and 39 engage behind the body 24. It is clear that in this way connections can be made which can be loaded on tensile forces. This can therefore be used in any form of intermediate connection in a piece of furniture, for example in connections between an upper and lower wall of a cupboard, or connections between two side walls, as a result of which two of such walls can move apart under the influence of a load. be opposed.
It is clear that all components used to realize a connecting device according to the invention can be manufactured in any material. It is important that it meets the required rigidity, which can be determined experimentally. All components may, for example, consist of plastic or all of metal. An advantageous combination is to realize the reproduced component 4 from metal, while the socket-shaped body or thus the component 5 consists of plastic.
Figure 19 shows a variant in which the second component consists of two separate parts 4041 which can be snapped together by means of snap means 42 or the like around the first part 12. Figure 20 shows one separate part 40 thereof. Both separate parts can be identical. It is clear that this pre-assembly can take place during manufacture and therefore does not have to be carried out by the user.
A variant of the connecting device 1 is shown in Figures 21 to 36.
Analogously to the embodiment of figures 1 to 16, the connecting device 1 comprises a first connecting part 6 and a second connecting part 9.
As shown, the first connecting portion 6 and the second connecting portion 9 extend along respective longitudinal axes L1-L2, wherein these longitudinal axes preferably extend in mutually different directions, and are preferably mutually at an angle of 90 degrees or substantially 90 degrees.
The embodiment of Figures 21 to 36 differs from the embodiment of Figures 1 to 16 only in a limited number of respects.
A difference here consists in that the spreading system 7 is characterized by a spreading direction S which extends transversely to the longitudinal axis L2 of the second connecting part 9. In the embodiment of figures 1 to 16, on the other hand, the spreading system 7 is characterized by a spreading direction S which, as indicated in figure 16, extends substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the second connecting part 9. Depending on the application in which the connecting device 1 is used, forces may arise in one direction or another that are such that the first part 12 is subjected to lateral forces, for example tipping forces, and this part wriggles into the gap 18, which may compromise the quality of the connection. By using such an embodiment as a function of the application that any large lateral forces occurring coincide with the spreading direction, the chance that the first part 12 wriggles into the gap 18 is minimized. Taking this into account, the embodiment of Figure 21 is usually preferred to the embodiment of Figure 1 when attaching a "center post".
The foregoing difference is expressed in the examples shown, inter alia, by the fact that the oval-shaped element 14 in Figure 1 is oriented horizontally with the longest axis of the oval shape, whereas in contrast, in Figure 21, this longest axis is vertical.
As stated in the introduction, the connecting devices 1 according to the invention are preferably provided with a tensioning system with which a tensioning can be processed from the second connecting part 9 to the second part 13 of the first fixing part 6, preferably a tensioning in an axial direction of the first fastening part 6, wherein this tensioning system is preferably integrated in the aforementioned spreading system 7. Furthermore, preferably use is made here of means 43 which, when tensioning the first connecting part 6, i.e. upon activation thereof, allow the second connecting part 9 to the second part 13 of the first connecting part 6 is displaced, with the advantage that the furniture parts 2-3 are also pulled towards each other and thereby preferably tensioned against each other. In the embodiment of figures 1 to 16, these means are formed by the deformation parts 30 which are compressed and / or deformed and / or pressed away when the whole is tightened.
In the embodiment of Figs. 21 to 36, these last-mentioned means 43 are formed by sections that rotate alongside each other and can engage deeper into each other during tensioning. In the example, these means 43 are also designed in such a way that in the aforementioned rotation a tangible end position is provided, in which the spreading effect of the spreading system 7 is preferably maximum. The aforementioned portions are herein formed by the shown projections 44, on the one hand, and the front edge 46 of the second part 13 provided with countersinks 45, on the other hand. The operation is illustrated in Figures 35 and 36 and is essentially as follows. Figure 35 shows the initial state in which no fixture has yet been realized. The connecting device 1 is herein arranged with the first connecting part 6 in the recess 8, while the furniture part 3 is slid onto the body 24 of the second connecting part 9 and still has to be turned into the final position. Figure 35 thus shows a state in which the furniture parts 2 and 3 are in a mutual position as in Figure 18. In this state of Figure 35, the protrusions 44 are located against the non-sunken parts of the edge 46. Then, through the furniture part 3 and thus also the second connecting part 9, a clamping is realized in an analogous manner as in figures 15 and 16. Due to the conical shape of the first part 12, not only a radial clamping is obtained, but also an axial clamping while the protrusions 44 rotate over the edge 46.
When these protrusions 44 come to lie opposite the countersinks 14, this axial clamping has the result that the second connecting part 9 and the furniture part 3 fixed thereon are pulled towards the furniture part 2, whereby any play between the furniture parts is removed.
The connecting devices 1 according to the invention are preferably provided with retaining means for holding the second connecting part 9 in the relevant furniture part 3, such that the connecting part 9 and the furniture part 2 cannot disassociate, or less quickly, according to the relevant insertion direction. In the embodiment of Figure 1, these retaining means can simply consist of the second connecting part 9, and more particularly the body 24, cooperating with the recess 10 with a clamping fit. The use of a somewhat conical body 24, such that a clamping occurs only at the end of the insertion, is hereby designated.
In the embodiment of Figure 21, these retaining means comprise clamping ribs 47.
As stated in the introduction, the connecting device preferably comprises positioning and / or blocking means which prevent or counteract a rotation of the second part 13 in the relevant recess 8 and / or provide for positioning of the second part 13 in the recess, before this the connecting device is activated, so before the first part is clamped in the second part 13. In the foregoing embodiments, these means are formed, inter alia, by the fact that the second part 13 is configured in such a way that, in the initially mounted state, it fits into the relevant recess with a preferably slight clamping fit, wherein this second part 13 furthermore in the examples shown is provided with a structure, in this case the aforementioned toothing 23, which provides an engaging effect, both in axial and in circumferential direction.
Figure 37 shows a variant in which the aforementioned means are formed in that the first connecting part 6, and preferably the second part 13 thereof, as well as the recess 8, are provided with mutually engaging parts 48-49 which in a certain position fit together. In the example shown, use is made of one portion 48 in the form of a protrusion and two portions 49 in the form of recesses in which the protrusion 48 can take place.
Figures 38 to 40 show an example of a connecting device 1 according to the invention which comprises a blocking system 50 which locks the second connecting part 9 and the furniture part 3 with which it cooperates in the mounted end position against rotation relative to the other furniture part 2. In this example, the blocking system is formed essentially of a locking part 51 arranged on the second connecting part 9 which engages a recess 52 in the aforementioned end position. As shown, this locking member 51 may be formed as an elastically bendable lip 53, with a protrusion 54 that is urged into the recess 52 by the elastic lip 53 when the protrusion 54 is brought to the recess 52 by rotation.
The locking part 51 may or may not be made in one piece with one of the other parts of the connecting device 1. In the embodiment of Fig. 38, the locking part 51 is designed as a demountable part and comprises a holder 55 with a part 56, with which the holder is detachably arranged around the body 24, and with a connecting part 57 to which the aforementioned lip 53 is attached.
As shown, the holder 55 can also be provided with circumferentially oriented ribs which can function as retaining means for the body 24. It is noted that, according to an embodiment not shown, the body 24 per se can also be provided with circumferentially oriented ribs, also when no blocking system 50 is used.
The operation of the blocking system 50 is shown in FIGS. 39 and 40. Figure 39 shows how the whole is mounted in a furniture part 3. The lip 53 is elastically bendable, as shown in dashed line. By subsequently fitting the furniture part 3 with the connecting device 1 present thereon in the recess 8 of the furniture part 2 in the manner already described above, the lip 51 is bent. By subsequently turning the assembly into the position in which the protrusion 54 is positioned opposite the recess 52, this protrusion 54 will be forced into the recess 52 under the influence of the bending back of the lip 51.
Figures 41 to 42 show a variant in which the blocking system 50 has a locking part 51 which cooperates directly with the furniture part 3, instead of with the actual connecting device 1. The locking part 51, which also acts as a kind of elastic lip, is here provided with fixing portions 58, in the form of protrusions, which fit into openings (not shown), such as bores, in the head end of the furniture part 3, all this as shown in figure 41. It is clear that the operation is analogous as in 40. The engagement of the protrusion 54 in the recess 52 is still specifically shown in Figure 42.
Figures 45 and 46 show a variant of the embodiment of Figures 41 to 42, the protrusion 54 and the mounting portions 58 being of a slightly different shape.
Figure 47 shows a special embodiment of a connecting device 1 according to the invention. The aforementioned retaining means here consist of a locking means 59 with hook-shaped locking parts 60 which engage behind an edge 61 on the relevant furniture part 3, more particularly an edge in the form of a collar or the like.
In the example, use is made of a locking means 59 in the form of an element 62 which is arranged through an opening 63 in the second connecting part 9, which, as aforementioned, has one or more hook-shaped locking parts 60 which are behind an edge 61 on the furniture part 3. able to engage, as well as with a stop-forming part 64 that restrains the second connecting part in the mounted position. Furthermore, the locking means 59 comprises a part 65 that can be inserted from the outside, preferably in the form of a plug, which can force and / or hold the locking parts 60 in a locking position. Locking parts can in turn be present on the part 65 to hold it in place after mounting, which in the example are formed by a recess 66 which can cooperate with edges 67.
The operation of the locking means 59 can easily be deduced from Fig. 47. It essentially consists in that after the second connecting part 9 has been fitted in the furniture part 3, it is retained in the relevant opening by pushing the element 62 through the opening 63 and also arranging the part 65 in the element 62, all this until the locking parts 60 engage behind the edge 61.
In the example of Figure 47, the edge 61 is formed by a circle-shaped collar. However, it is clear that any edge or collar is eligible. For example, such a collar can also be obtained by providing a slot 68 in the end face of the furniture part 3, which slot is continuous, of which only a part is schematically indicated in Fig. 47. The production of such a straight slot is noticeably simpler than the production of an egg-shaped undercut.
It is noted that the connecting device 1 can consist of any suitable material, with different or different materials being used for the respective parts. Preferably, however, the first component 4 will be made of metal, while the second component 5 and any other component parts are made of plastic.
It is noted that in the context of the present invention, a "furniture part" can be understood to mean any part that can occur during the construction of a furniture. This therefore also means that such a connecting device can be used, for example, to connect actual furniture parts, such as panels, posts and the like, to one another, and to attach a fitting part, such as for example a runner for a slide or a hinge, against a wall or the like. . The second connecting portion can then be designed as a knob or butterfly nut on which a twist can be made to activate the spreading effect.
Furthermore, it is clear that the invention also relates to a method for mounting a piece of furniture, more particularly for fixing two pieces of furniture together, characterized in that the basic technique described with reference to Figure 18 is used.
It is noted that the aforementioned second component, or thus the spreadable part, can in general be designed such that it can be stuck to the first component, so that both components remain together and can be put together in the assembled state prior to the use of the connecting device 1. traded.
The second component can also take various forms. It is clear that it does not necessarily have to be designed as a split body, but that this component can also be designed, for example, as a continuous, for example, bush-shaped, body, for example made of plastic, which can be easily radially made via a suitable cooperation with the first part. stretched open.
It is also noted that the term "spreading system" must be interpreted broadly and in fact includes every system with which a clamping effect in a recess can be realized. Figure 16 schematically shows a substantial spread, but in reality this can also only concern a radial clamping. After all, it is true that the second part 13 is arranged in the recess 8 with, for example, a slight clamping and that the subsequent spread is therefore very small, and practically nil, and mainly manifests itself as a radial pressure towards the outside. There is normally always a spread on the inside of the second part 13, which spread then results in a spread and / or fixture on the outside of the second part.
The fact that the mutual rotation between the first part and the second part produces a spreading effect in function of the realized mutual angular position means in the broadest sense that there are at least two angular positions, wherein at least in one position a more spread or contracted state of the spreading system is obtained than in the other position.
Figures 48 to 55 show a practical embodiment of the connection system of the invention mentioned in the introduction.
This relates to a connection system which provides a connection between furniture parts, in particular between at least one first furniture part 2 directed in a first direction and a second furniture part 3 directed transversely thereto. The connection system 69 is characterized by: - that the connection system 69 comprises at least two connecting devices, a first connecting device 1A and a second connecting device 1B, respectively, which are mounted at a distance from each other and each make a connection between at least the first furniture part 2 and the second furniture part 3; - that each of the connecting devices 1A-1B contains a first connecting part 6 intended to cooperate with the first furniture part 2, and also contains a second connecting part 9 intended to cooperate with the second furniture part 3; - that each of said two connecting devices 1A-1B comprises both the first connecting portion 6 and the second connecting portion 9 as insertion portions intended to cooperate with respective recesses 8 and 10 in the respective furniture parts 2 and 3, said insertion parts each having an associated insertion direction or longitudinal direction are characterized, wherein the insertion directions or longitudinal direction of the first connecting part 6 and associated second connecting part 9 are in each case transverse to each other and are preferably perpendicular or substantially perpendicular to each other; - that at least the first connecting parts 6 or at least the second connecting parts 9 also have retaining means for retaining these connecting parts in the respective recess 8-10; and - that the second connecting part 9 of the first connecting device 1A and the second connecting part 9 of the second connecting device 1) engage from two opposite sides 70-71 of the second furniture part 3 which have turned away from each other in respective recesses 10, in other words are located on either side of the second furniture part.
In the illustrated example of Figs. 48 to 55, both the first connecting part 6 of the first connecting device 1A and the first connecting part 6 of the second connecting device 1B cooperate with one and the same side 72 of the first furniture part 2, thus, in the final state, the same edge 73 of the second furniture part 3 is held against the aforementioned side 72.
In the example shown, at least the first connecting parts 6 are provided with retaining means. Since in the illustrated example connecting devices 1A-1B are used as described above, these retaining means are formed in that the first connecting part 6 is each designed as a spreading system which can each time be activated by means of an activation mechanism 11.
For the further construction of the preferred connecting devices 1A-1B, reference is made to the features described above with reference to Figures 1 to 47.
The operation and applied method of the connection system 69 can be easily derived from Figures 48 to 56.
Figures 48 to 51 show how the connecting devices 1A and 1B are mounted and positioned. In the end position they are present in the recesses 8 in the tensioned state, but mutually directed with their second connecting parts 9 in substantially the opposite direction. The longitudinal axes L2 are both perpendicular to the direction that the second piece of furniture must ultimately take in the illustrated example of the state of Figure 51.
Figures 52 to 54 then illustrate how the second furniture part 3 is attached to the connecting devices 1A-1B by rotation.
Figures 55 and 56 show the final state. Because a connecting device 1A, 1B, respectively, is now present on either side, it is better to absorb forces in two directions on the second furniture part 3, namely K1 and K2, while with a support in only one direction, such furniture part 2 can easily come loose in the other direction.
Fig. 57 schematically shows a piece of furniture in which the second piece of furniture part 3 forms a vertical partition wall, which is fixed at the bottom and at the top by means of a connecting system 69 as described above. The partition wall can hereby absorb forces K1-K2 as well as a tensile force TF as a result of a load.
Fig. 58 shows a piece of furniture, more particularly office furniture, which comprises a transverse panel mounted at two opposite ends between two vertical supports, the transverse panel being connected at both ends via a connecting system 69 as mentioned above with the respective vertical supports. The supports form first furniture parts 1, while the transverse panel or the crossbar functions as the first furniture part.
Fig. 59 schematically shows that the same locking system 69 of the invention can also be active between one "second" furniture part 3 and two "first" furniture parts 2A and 2B. The confirmation is done by means of the turning movement W.
Figures 60 to 67 illustrate an attachment system 69 analogous to that of Figures 48 to 56, but with the connecting devices 1A and 1B positioned relatively closer to each other up to their size. This means that the second connecting parts 9 in the condition of Fig. 65 with their longitudinal axes L2 are preferably still somewhat rotated relative to the final position. An advantage here is that during fitting and forcing the second furniture part 3 into position, certain clamping effects can be created simultaneously which can cause a more rigid mounted condition.
The present invention is by no means limited to the embodiments described as examples and shown in the figures, but such a connecting device, as well as such a connecting system and the use in a piece of furniture can be realized according to different variants without departing from the scope of the invention.
